United Way

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver has been awarded the Community Innovation Grant from the United Way of the Lower Mainland for $39,000 to help fund a pilot program targeted at newly immigrated families in Vancouver.

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver is a community partner of the United Way of the Lower Mainland and a recipient of the Community Partner grant. Together we provide children age 6-12 with the support and resources they need. Their continued funding of our Community Program, In-School Mentoring Program and Teen Mentoring program has been fundamental in sustaining and expanding our mentoring programs and enhancing the positive impact they have on families, children and youth in the Lower Mainland. United Way’s funding is vital to our agency and will continue to help us reach our goal to put a mentor in the life of every child who needs one.

After three years of participating in the United Way's Community Impact Measurement and Management Project, we continue to partner with the United Way to implement a shared measurement, monitoring and reporting system around after school programs. We are committed to the evaluation and measurement of our programs based on the following outcomes: positive social skills and competence, healthy behavior for children and youth, academic achievement and school engagement and family relationships and support. Each of these outcomes are rooted in the Middle Years Development Instrument which measures children’s overall health and well-being. Through both qualitative and quantitative measurement, these evaluations have allowed us to increase our understanding of our programs, and, most importantly, understand more fully the impact we are having on the community. In turn, we have the ability to evaluate our work, learn how we can improve our programming, as well as, report and maintain accountability to our funders.
