Staples Shows a Simple Way to Give

How many ways can you give to Big Brothers?  Staples Advantage Canada came up with more than one way!  A program called “Staples Soul” reflects their commitment to corporate responsibility by making a positive impact on their community.  Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver was one of the organizations picked by Staples to provide a lunch’n’learn to introduce them to Big Brothers during their ‘Soul Week’.

Staples was in the middle of implementing one of their green initiatives started by Julie Sim, Administrative Assistant for Staples Advantage Canada.  The initiative was to recycle all supplies in the warehouse and staff offices, and Sim decided to donate these supplies to Big Brothers.  Soon there were four skids of multiple office supplies delivered directly to the door of Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver, and all staff received them with enthusiasm and appreciation.

Soon after, Staples showed an interest in the In-School Mentoring Program.  A field trip was planned and Staples staff were toured around a local elementary school.  During the tour, Sim suggested another way they could give.  Due to the company’s rebranding, they had 900 sample boxes (pen, calculator, ruler, etc.) that couldn’t be used and all of these were offered to Big Brothers.

The donation was happily accepted and will be distributed for use in volunteer recruitment, events, back to school packages for Littles, and the list goes on. Sim’s is excited to see the products used so extensively. “Getting to know Big Brothers through our Staples Soul week was a real eye opener and I look forward to working with them in the future,” notes Sim.  “I had no idea how much time and effort they really put into the kids and I am glad to be a part of all that.  Here is to a long and lasting relationship between Big Brothers and Staples Advantage!”

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver extends a warm and hearty “Thank You” to Staples Advantage Canada for choosing us as their first choice charity and for always thinking of ways they can help children in their community, no matter what the method.

Get involved!

There are many ways to support Big Brothers. From volunteering to event participation to donating used clothing, each option is equally rewarding and beneficial to our programs.
