CANACCORD CAPITAL SUPPORTS BIG BROTHERS THROUGH GOLF

As the first annual Canaccord Capital Big Brothers Golf Open draws near, Big Brothers’ staff feel a large sense of familiarity to Big Brothers’ golf tournaments past.  No doubt this familiarity relates with Canaccord Capital’s 15 year involvement as Presenting Sponsor of The Big Brothers Whistler Golf Classic.

When the downturned economy led to the cancellation of the tournament, Canaccord Capital stepped up once again to begin a new golf era at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club.  To be held on September 28th, the new tournament boasts the same prestige as the Whistler event but just a little bit closer to home.

Evidently, Canaccord’s commitment to Big Brothers is one that endures through both good and bad financial times.  Chairman Peter Brown credits the loyalty to the value of work carried out by the charity.

“Canaccord has had an association with Big Brothers and this golf tournament for sixteen years and, for all of us, it has been both enjoyable and rewarding,” Brown explains.  “It has always provided great camaraderie while supporting the excellent quality work that Big Brothers does to assist the youth of our province.  It doesn’t get any better than that.”

The impact of Canaccord’s involvement with Big Brothers through golf, bowling and sponsor recruitment has raised over $5 million over the years.  With each Big and Little friendship cost at $2,000 annually, the amount of children Canaccord and Peter Brown have helped serve is unparalleled.

“His support has opened so many positive doors for us,” reports Valerie Lambert, Executive Director at Big Brothers.  “We are delighted to be working with Peter and Canaccord Capital once again.  The support has allowed us to help countless Lower Mainland children.”

As one legacy draws to a close in Whistler, Big Brothers’ staff have come to realize that the true legacy lies in the relationship between Canaccord and Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver and the friendships they have together forged.
