A Long Term Friendship
The friendships at Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver are not only between children and adult mentors, but also the organizations who work together to support such programs. The friendship between Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver and Canaccord Financial is a fine example of friendship with both history and a future.
The upcoming Canaccord Financial Big Brothers Golf Classic marks seventeen years of working together for the community. Held at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club on Monday, September 27th, the tournament features a line-up of Canaccord’s business associates and other like-minded individuals who will spend a day golfing Vancouver’s finest private course and an evening complete with dinner and auction. Nearly sold out, it is expected to exceed the event’s inaugural fundraising success of $205,000.
Canaccord sponsored Big Brothers’ Whistler golf tournament for 15 years, helping raise over $3 million in that time. When the decision was made to make a change, Canaccord remained by Big Brothers’ side, quickly laying a foundation for the new Vancouver based tournament.
“The tournament has always provided great camaraderie while supporting the excellent quality work that Big Brothers does to assist the youth of our province. It doesn’t get any better than that,” explains Peter M. Brown, Chairman at Canaccord Financial.
The camaraderie has been shared throughout Canaccord, particularly by staff who have been instrumental in generating the dollars raised. Confirming sponsorships, scouting auction donations and even assisting in the planning of the event, Canaccord and Big Brothers have worked together to create a first rate golf tournament.
Sadly missed at this year’s tournament is Frank Rigney, a long time Big Brother and Canaccord alumni who passed away on June 29th. Forging the relationship between Big Brothers and Canaccord, Frank was a great friend and supporter of Big Brothers. His incredible spirit will be honoured at the tournament.
