Jan 25, 2009Big and Little Brothers Spend Sunday Afternoon Tubing and Tobagganing Down Seymour Mountain
Giggles and laughter sent a joyful ripple of sound across Seymour Mountain on Sunday afternoon as Big and Little Brothers raced down the hill on toboggans and snow tubes at the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver 2009 Winter Party.
"We had such a great time," said Andrew, a volunteer mentor in the Big Brothers program, "Josh was a little scared at first but it's amazing how you can show a child he might actually enjoy something if he just gives it a try!"
While the boys were out in the snow, mom's had a chance to chat and make marshmallow igloos inside the yurt, set up at the top of the hill. Cindy, who signed her son up for a Big Brother two years ago, says that the giant smile on her son's face when he sees his Big Brother Sean shows just how much he loves spending time with his Big Brother.
At noon sharp, Bigs, Littles and moms gathered in the yurt to participate in a raffle draw for toys, games, t-shirts and other great prizes. While Little Brothers anxiously waited for their raffle number to be called, others enjoyed free coffee, hot chocolate and pastries generously donated by Starbucks on Robson.
"This year's Winter Party was extremely successful. Wherever I turned, I could only see the kids' smiles and red cheeks from tobogganing in the fresh air," said Big Brothers staff member and Winter Party coordinator, Alexandra Vasiliu. "Everyone had a blast and even the sun was on our side. It was definitely the most fun event I've ever been a part of, since I started working at Big Brothers."
