Celebrating Big Brothers Big Sisters Month with a BIG bang!

September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month across Canada and our agency reached out to the community all month long to celebrate child and youth mentoring.

Big Brothers in the media

Throughout September, a number of Big and Little Brothers shared their experiences with the community. Media coverage highlights included a Big and Little Brother on CTV's Making a Difference; stories in The Now newspapers of Surrey, Burnaby and the Tri-Cities; an interview on SFU Campus Radio CJSF 90.1fm; and a full-page article in the Richmond News!

Soggy weather doesn't damper Big Brothers spirit

On September 20th our agency hosted its 5th annual Big Brothers Picnic. Big and Little Brothers and their families joined the fun and festivities at Confederation Park in Burnaby to celebrate Big Brothers Month.

Despite the heavy downpour, over 100 Big and Little Brothers and their families came out to enjoy great food, prizes and games, including an exciting tug-of-war match! Everyone who attended had the chance to win great prizes donated by our generous sponsors. But the goodies didn't stop there. At the end of the day, each kid in attendance got a cool backpack full of school supplies donated generously by Office Depot!

Big Brothers Month contest: Little Brothers show their appreciation

We asked all of our Little Brothers to submit an entry telling us why their Big Brother is the best - and they didn't disappoint! The submissions flooded through our inboxes. Our winning entry was from Anthony, age 11. For his inspirational piece seen below, he received an MP3 player and tickets to a sea safari at Sewell's Marina!

Second place went to Hugh, age 11. And third place was Jake, age 9. Although this contest only had three winners, all Little Brothers who submitted an entry were rewarded with BC Lions tickets, passes for rock climbing or go-karting passes!

All prizes generously donated by:
  • Sewell's Marina
  • Hastings Golf Centre
  • Capilano Suspension Bridge
  • Cliffhanger Climbing Gyms
  • Richmond Go-Karts
  • BC Lions

Get involved!

There are many ways to support Big Brothers. From volunteering to event participation to donating used clothing, each option is equally rewarding and beneficial to our programs.
