Become an In-School Mentor

Process

1. Application
After we receive your application form, we will contact your references. We will also mail you a criminal record check form.

2. Interview
Shortly after receiving your application we will call you to schedule a one-on-one interview. The interview lasts approximately two hours and consists of a series of questions related to your motivation, beliefs and values, interests and lifestyle, and family history.

The interview is a good chance for you and your mentoring coordinator to check in with each other to evaluate your satisfaction with your experience to date. If you both agree that this is the right volunteer opportunity for you, you will be invited to attend training.

3. Training
Training is a three-hour group session. It is designed to get you ready to meet your 'Little' and will give you the tools you need to build a successful friendship.

After training, you and your mentoring coordinator will consult to make sure you are both ready to proceed. If so, this is your opportunity to accept our invitation to volunteer.

4. Meet your "Little"!
Shortly after your acceptance, you will be contacted by your mentoring coordinator who will tell you about your Little Brother, Sister or Buddy and to schedule the introductory meeting. If you are an In-School Mentor, your first meeting will take place at the child's school with your mentoring coordinator, the school liaison, and your Little Buddy. If you are a Big Brother or Big Sister, your meeting will take place at the child's home with the mentoring coordinator, the parent(s), and the child. After the formalities, you and your "Little" will be able to plan your first activity or outing and you will leave knowing what to expect.

Get involved!
