pledge raising tips

Thank You!

Thank you for taking a step toward putting a mentor in the life of every child who needs one. Your support is certain to put a smile on the face of a child who otherwise would not have had a friend to mentor him. As a bowler, you fund important mentoring programs for at-risk kids and set the example for your friends, family and colleagues to do the same.

How else do you benefit as a bowler?
• You have the satisfaction of helping your community
• You instill team spirit in the workplace
• You take part in a massive movement to help kids

Want to bowl and support Big Brothers, but don’t have a team? Email us and we’ll find a team for you to join!

Pledge Raising Tips

Bowlers are asked to raise a minimum $50 each and only need to raise $125 to receive an incentive prize.

Don't forget! Pledges will be collected until April 30th. So keep fundraising, even after your event!

It's easy. Just be creative and have fun. Here are some ideas to help you get started right away:

In Person

1. Gather donations and put together a theme basket for raffle, including toy maracas, a gift certificate to a Mexican restaurant and Mexican hot sauces.

2. Organize a fundraising potluck, fiesta themed party, or salsa club night

3. Have your friends pledge you based on your bowling score (ie: $1 for each pin knocked down in one game)
4. Don’t be afraid to ask your neighbours, friends and family to donate. All you have to do is ask!

Online

1. Request pledges from family, friends, clients and colleagues with your personal online pledging page.

2. Use social media to link to your personal fundraising page and ask your friends to share the link.

3. Create an e-signature that links to your personal fundraising page.
4. Be creative! Send a personal video message. Click here to check out this video by one of our Top Fundraisers, Rob Taylor.

At the Office

1. Challenge a co-worker to a pledge-off. First one to reach $500 buys nachos and margaritas.

2. Bake or buy cookies and put them in the lunch room or offer them to colleagues by donation. (Photo: Bake sale at Teck Resources)

3. Make a bet. Tell your co-workers that if you reach your fundraising goal, you'll wear a big sombrero to work for a day.

"I knew of Big Brothers and what they do. Only in 2005 did I clearly understand exactly how this big wonderful organization operates. That year our workplace was invited to participate in the Bowling fundraiser. A fellow workmate told me then that he was a Big Brother and went into detail of his mentoring… I was moved and totally inspired! I immediately began fundraising with friends and associates and was able to use my clout that allowed me to prosper. Since 2005 I have won the Best Fundraising Individual 5 times. Last year, I exceeded my personal goal of raising $100,000 for Big Brothers. It’s an honor…" - John DeFazio
