Code of Conduct
Core Values
Our board members and our staff commit to living the values of our agency. We use these values to guide us in all interactions, including those with clients, fellow staff members, board members and agency partners. We monitor our performance in meeting our values to ensure our self perception reflects reality. Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver (BBGV) is committed to:

Confidentiality
Adherence to confidentiality is of the utmost importance at BBGV.
Confidential information gathered and recorded by BBGV needs to be understood within thesensitive context of our work with children and our need to safeguard them.
a) All documentation, of whatever nature, generated by employees during the course of their employment, shall be the property of BBGV exclusively. All confidential data and information concerning BBGV and obtained by employees shall be maintained in confidence both during and after the period of their employment with BBGV. Upon the cessation of employment for any reason, or at any time at the request of BBGV, employees will deliver to BBGV any and all records obtained or generated by them in the course of their duties with BBGV.
b) Employees will acquire information about certain matters and things which are confidential to BBGV, and to individuals and organizations with whom BBGV conducts its activities. Disclosure of such confidential information could be damaging to BBGV and others, and could constitute a breach of the privacy rights of BBGV and others. During the term of their employment with BBGV, or at any time thereafter, employees shall not (except in the proper course of their duties, or as required by law) disclose to any other person or organization, without the previous consent in writing of BBGV, any such confidential information. Employees will not use or permit others to use any such confidential information, or make copies of any documents containing such confidential information, except as may be authorized by BBGV or required in the course of their duties (in which case they will ensure copies remain confidential), or as required by law.
c) Employees will advise BBGV of any unauthorized disclosure or use of any confidential information of which they become aware at any time while employed by BBGV, whether or not they are directly involved in such disclosure.
d) These provisions shall not prevent employees from making any disclosure of confidential information that they are required to make under any law.
Conflict of Interest
Employees shall act in the best interests of our organization rather than in furtherance of their personal interests or the interests of third parties.
Employees will avoid situations where their personal interest conflicts or appears to conflict with their relationship with and/or their duties within our organization.
Employees will evaluate their conduct in light of the impact on our organization.
Employees shall disclose both actual and apparent conflicts of interest.
